Atheism -> Sanskrit : nirīśvaravāda, lit. "statement of no Lord"

Definitions

Astika : belief in the Vedas

Nastika : rejection of the Vedas

Both Astika and Nastika contain viewpoints defined as atheistic.

Astika atheism doesn't believe in a Creator God but does acknowledge the concept of dualism (material and spiritual/soul) and non-dualism(Advaita - everything is the Brahman and is connected and one - reality is illusory)

Nastika atheism includes three main schools of thought: Theravada Buddhism, Jainism, and Carvaka

Carvaka is a materialist, secular, and atheist school of thought closely resembling today's Secular Humanist philosophy.

Jain

Theravada Buddhism

associated philosophies.
I'm not positive yet, but I believe Carvaka may be the oldest atheist and

I confess that while I have a fascination for the Indian culture, and
the religious affiliations thereof, I have done little to nothing to
