Is it just me, or are white peaches and nectarines sorely lacking in flavor? It past years I have rarely both the white varieties because they were much more expensive that the regular yellow ones, No this season white and yellow peaches and nectarines are the same price ($1.28 lb) in my supermarket. Very pretty very white very blah,

They are probably being picked greener to facilitate transportation. The reason white nectarines and peaches were not widely marketed in the past was that they bruise more easily (or show the bruises more easily).
Perhaps after the market was created for these tastier, more delicate fruit, someone got the idea that flavor was no longer necessary for consumers that had learned to seek them out.
Sort of like how Wolfgang Puck's Spicy Chicken frozen pizza started out really good, but then declined greatly in quality after establishing a market. The original had sliced chicken meat in it, but the replacement had ground chicken sausage.

It might just be your area or your supermarket. We're lucky enough to have a local orchard that sells retail. They have many varieties so they'll ripen through a longer season. The white peaches were excellent, better than the yellow ones that were ripe at the same time. Now the white ones are gone. I've never learned the specific names of the peaches the way I do the apples.

We're almost through a container of white nectarines from Costco. They are sweet as sugar, dripping with goodness and have a wonderful, rich flavor.
The brand is Arctic Pride, in Reedley, CA.
They weren't cheap, that's for sure, but I've been getting stung too much on tasteless fruit and I know of the fruit is blah, at least Costco will gladly give me my money back.
They ain't gettin' these nectarines back, that's for sure.

To be honest, I've never bought or eaten a white peach or nectarine. They are always more expensive, never smell as good and, I assume, lack the phytochemicals that contribute to the nutritional value of their yellow-tinted kin.

I ate a Jersey Fresh white peach two weeks ago. I got it from a farm stand and it was the best peach I have ever eaten in my life.
I had purchased a white one and a yellow one at the same place and both were equally ripe. The white one was superior.

I agree about supermarket white peaches, but I have picked them off the trees in years past in MA and they were sweet, juicy and delicious.
It's probably the difference between picking them half ripe for shipment or dead ripe for eating/jam.

I don't see white nectarines here, but eagerly await the white peaches. Mine are certainly not lacking in flavor! They have a less sweet and spicy flavor than yellow ones. If yours aren't wonderful, then either they've planted a breed better for shipping than flavor, or it was picked too green to ever get good. White peaches = Bellinis

The little "doughnut" peaches are white and can be very good. Mind you, they are harder to peel and some people don't like eating peach skin.

We've found over the years that the white-fleshed nectarines we've been able to buy have a richer, more complex flavour than the yellow-fleshed ones; I don't buy the yellow-fleshed ones at all any more; they're never anywhere near as nice as the others.
